The face of American baseball changed when 19-year-old George Herman Ruth, Jr., was signed to play for the Baltimore Orioles. Within five months, he was a major player with the Boston Red Sox and would eventually make history with the New York Yankees. Babe Ruth died on August 16, 1948.
