Easy Yoga for Arthritis DVD Review
While not specific to neuromuscular disease, the modifications and detailed instructions given in the exercise DVD Easy Yoga for Arthritis with Peggy Cappy: Yoga for the Rest of Us will make the yoga exercises demonstrated appropriate for many individuals with neuromuscular disease.
Balance and Neuromuscular Disease
While everyone knows about the “five senses” – sight, hearing, smell, taste, touch – most likely you have paid little attention to another important sense, the sense of balance, unless you have problems with balance. Many of the neuromuscular diseases do affect balance.
MDA’s Shamrocks Fundraiser 2017
In February and March every year, something strange happens. Green and gold paper Shamrocks begin to bloom on the walls of participating businesses.
Now in its 35th year, the MDA Shamrock’s fundraiser has now raised over $300 million!

21st Century Cures Act Signed Into Law
The 21st Century Cures Act has been signed into law. This Act provides funding for medical research and allows new treatments to reach those who will benefit more quickly. As a member of the neuromuscular community, I remain hopeful for new treatments and cures for neuromuscular disease.
Getting a Handicapped Parking Permit
When I asked about receiving a handicapped parking permit, I received paperwork for a permanent placard. Find out more about who qualifies for a handicapped parking permit and how to obtain one if you do.
Spiritual Journaling
Recently, much of my journaling has taken the form of spiritual journaling. I have found this to be a valuable practice to help me cope with the neuromuscular disease, remember my many blessings, and strengthen my walk with God. Journaling has also been found to have important health benefits.
Extraordinary Measures Movie Review
The movie Extraordinary Measures was inspired by the true story of a family’s involvement in the search for a treatment for the neuromuscular disease Acid Maltese Deficiency (Pompe disease). This movie shows the power of hope and the human spirit to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles.
Pompe Disease
Pompe Disease, more formally known as Acid Maltease Deficiency (AMD), leads to progressive weakness of the muscles in the hips, upper legs, upper arms, and respiratory system. The infantile onset form also affects the muscles of the heart.
Homelessness and Physical Disability
According to a recent report, in 2014, for disabled individuals relying on U.S. Social Security Supplemental Income as their main or only source of income, SSSI does not cover the cost of a modest one bedroom apartment. An estimated 19% of homeless adults in the U.S. are disabled.
