Greetings. Welcome to the African American Culture site. I hope that while you are here, you will be inspired and encouraged. We are more than just flesh, we are spirit, as well. And it is imperative that we feed our mind and our spirits, as well as our bodies. Hopefully, this will be a place for you to learn, grow, and gain understanding; and perhaps some knowledgeable facts that you didn´t know before.
Now, I bet you want to know a little about me? I thought so. I definitely want to know more about my readers! I was born and raised in New York City. I went to College in Oklahoma—talk about a culture shock! I have taught Biblical studies for the past fifteen years, and I am a Minister. I was an inner-city youth minister for eight years. At one time, I worked as a counselor with juvenile delinquents, and have managed a home for unwed mothers and their children.
Growing up, I was blessed to be in a family that was rich with diversity, and proud of their African-American heritage. I always wanted to know why we (my family) did the things we did. Did all families celebrate the way we did? Did other cultures believe what we believed? I was quite inquisitive as a child; with a thirst and hunger for knowledge.
I was taught to be proud of who I am, and where I came from. I believe we all should have that sense of pride. It enriches our lives when we seek to learn all we can about each other, and can appreciate one another’s culture.
While growing up in New York, I had the opportunity to be exposed to many cultures. I am grateful for that experience. It not only helped me to appreciate others; but to appreciate myself, and my own rich heritage.
After spending some time at the African American Culture site—regardless of your culture—I hope you can take away a sense of pride, gainful knowledge, and a fresh perspective for who you are, and an appreciation for others.
Presently, I am an author, freelance writer, researcher, editor and a motivational speaker. I am co-owner of JohnRue Publishing, an independent publishing and editing company.
I´ve authored nine books(non-fiction & fiction): Reflections: Encouragement In The Face of Adversity, Volume I (2009); Reflections: God´s Grace Is Sufficient, Volume II(2012); Southern Comfort, hardcover 1st edition (2010), paperback 2nd edition (2012), This Christmas, a novella (Kindle only), Just Visiting, Unbearable Truths, Pepper (Short Stories on Kindle), and The Devil´s After Me, (To be released 2012)
As an active member of my community, I currently am a Board member of a non-profit agency that acquires land and buildings to turn into homes for low-income families. I believe the more you know, the more you will grow. And when you give from the heart, the return is a wealthy spirit!

Another little fun fact about me: I love to bake! I was a professional cook for a few years, and earned extra income by baking. I make the best Cheesecakes!

Now, I bet you want to know a little about me? I thought so. I definitely want to know more about my readers! I was born and raised in New York City.
