Aix en Provence, Several Seasons of Sun
Provence has become my favorite region of France. Pleasant in all seasons, visit Aix to absorb the scene of sprawling fields of lavender beyond tile-roofed villas. Even days spent doing nothing appear eventful in the context of this southern way of life.
Collioure and the Costa Brava
France feeds into Spain on a cobalt stretch of the Mediterranean known as the Costa Brava. The whitewashed fishermen’s villages are sleepy in all seasons but summer when sunbathers hold vigil on their coarse sands. In the fall without the clutter and clatter of people the solitude is priceless.
Day tripping : Normandy’s Alabaster Coast
Easily accesible from Paris, steal away from the city to lunch on fresh seafood, enjoy half-timbered architecture and explore the fairytale setting of the Alabaster Coast. Fecamp's invitingly green pastures crown milky cliffs as they branch into grandiose archways over the sea.
France’s Most Picturesque Cities
A list of my favorite places in France with advice on what to do and where to stay once you get there.
Isle Maurice – Where French Honeymooners Go
With cool blue water, sandy beaches, a rugged mountainous interior and the diversity of Creole and Indian cultures, Isle Maurice provides an affordable tropical getaway for those who are active and adventurous.
The Gorges du Verdon - Weekends Away
Rugged canyon roads wind through dozens of sleepy towns along the way in, but the view from the top is the reason most visit Europe's largest canyon. Families picnic and paddleboat around reservoirs and sports like canyoning and hydrospeed are practiced where the river runs freely.
Train to Brussels
Aboard the TGV, french-speaking Belgium is less than an hour and a half away from Paris. Reputed for the confection of chocolate and beer, and its wealth of Art Nouveau architecture, why not steal a weekend away in Brussels?
Where Paris meets Marrakech - At the Hammam
The Mosquee de Paris’ hammam lies just outside one of the oldest gardens in Paris, le Jardin des Plantes. You can spend the afternoon in a heat-induced trance which includes exfoliation, massage, and dessert for less than 50 euros, though some may find the experience too authentic.
