Eye makeup can make or break a look. Everyone cannot apply shadow the same way and get the same results. Often times the technique used should be flattering to the shape of the eye. Deep set eyes are characterized as having a sunken appearance. The eyes are set farther back into the skull and therefore there is a lot of shadow in the crease area, which many other eye shapes try to mimic, and shadow underneath the eye area. As with any eye shape, the first step is to apply an eyelid primer. A concealer would be a sufficient primer for those with deep set eyes. Concealer that is skin toned would reduce some of the natural shadow created and reduce the sunken appearance as well as hold eyeshadow in place. The under-eye area should also be concealed to get rid of the natural shadow there as well. A skin toned concealer or a highlighting concealer that is a shade lighter can be used under the eye.

Once the eye area is properly primed, it is time to apply eyeshadow. If going for a daytime look, light colors are going to be best. Blend a light shadow over the entire eyelid to make eyes appear less sunken as well as bright and awake. Highlighting the inner corners will also work to draw attention to the eyes. Any darker colors should be focused on the outer corner of the eyes. When it comes to a smokey eye for deep set eyes it is almost the same. The shape of the eye is already going to create a natural shadow in the crease. To create a smokey eye, apply the lightest shade on the lid, and keep the darker shades on the outer corner. Use a dark eye liner around the eye. Highlight the inner corner of the eye to provide a nice contrast. With either daytime or smokey eye looks, use a light shade to highlight the browbone and blend well.

Applying makeup to deep set eyes does not have to be difficult. The main things to avoid are deepening the crease, and applying dark eyeshadows over the entire eyelid. The important thing is to remember that every eye shape is beautiful. There is nothing to be ashamed about when it comes to deep set eyes. Every other eye shape attempts to mimic the beautiful, deep creases that come naturally to this eye shape.
