New Life

New Life
You may have heard Christian believers are promised new life in Christ. Just what are they talking about? When asked, I found it difficult to explain. How do I describe a complete change of heart? Below are a few Scripture references that begin to tell about the most important decision anyone can make.

The phrase “in Christ” or “in Christ Jesus” refers to the state believers enter at belief.

Believers - Belief – This means agreeing that something is true. For Christians, it means to trust God so completely that we are willing to commit our lives the him. It is a choice.

When you have confessed sin, asked God’s forgiveness, and asked Jesus into your life, you are saved from the old way of life. New life isn’t something we must achieve. It is freely given because of Christ’s sacrifice on the cross. Sins are forgiven. We have a right relationship with God.

By believing and declaring Jesus is Lord, you may be saved from spiritual death. (Romans 10:9)

Let’s talk about the new life Jesus came to give.
  • New life isn’t something we have to achieve. It is the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives. A gift from a merciful God. (Titus 3:5)

  • In this world, we are used to loss, theft, and destruction. But with Jesus, there are no ulterior motives. Jesus came that we would have life and have it in abundance. ( John 10:10)
    • Life: (as opposed to death where one is unresponsive, unloving, without hope)

    • Spiritual life. It is the gift of God who is the Creator and Sustainer of life

    • He gives life in abundance. (plentifulness of the good things of life;
      great, plenty, an overflowing quantity, ample supply)

  • In this new life we experience God’s mercy and forgiveness. We are freed from the power of sin. There is no condemnation. (Romans 8:1-2)

    (Condemnation – The sentencing of someone to punishment)

  • In this new life, we have resurrection power. The power that raised Jesus from the dead lives in us. (Ephesians 1:19-23)

  • The Holy Spirit lives in you. God’s Spirit, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. He gives life. (Romans 8:11)

  • God takes over. He has good plans for your life. Plans to give you hope and a future. (Jeremiah 29:11)

  • New life refers to a new spiritual self, a new nature. That nature is being continually renewed to be consistent with the image of our Creator. (Colossians 3:10)
