Kate Davidson is a Seattle, Washington yoga teacher who has a one-hundred pound canine companion by the name of Belle. She agreed to teach a doga, aka yoga for dogs, at the first annual furry 5K fun walk for a local animal rescue mission called DogMa. The no-kill animal shelter was going bankrupt and the head of the shelter was hoping to raise funds to keep it open.

An animal rights group protested the event causing it to turn into chaos. A woman named Raven was arguing with Dharma, the head of DogMa. Raven wanted to take DogMa down and let the animals run free.

First, a suspicious fire was started in a dumpster at the Dogma fundraiser, and later a dubious drowning caused police to arrest Dharma and charge her with murder.

In the meantime, Dharma claimed she was Kate’s estranged mother who abandoned her over thirty years ago, and now wants to reconcile.

When Kate and her animals come close to death, she and her friends step up the search for the real killer.

Karma’s a Killer is the third novel in the A Downward Dog Mystery by Tracy Weber, following Murder Strikes a Pose and A Killer Retreat.

A strong plot and plenty of twists and turns will keep readers busy trying to identify the culprit. Fast-paced and fun mixed in with a serious topic may cause a run to the nearest shelter to see if help is needed.

The novel is a true-to-life look at how strongly the topic of rescue animals can divide a town. Intense feelings and beliefs can cause harm to both animals and humans.

As intense as the novel is, it is also a pleasure to read. Not all is serious. Kate has her friends and her boyfriend Michael, along with Bella, to keep her grounded.

Animal lovers will appreciate this page-turner of a mystery with plenty of humor and fun mixed in.
