Years ago a driver in a black truck plowed down Officer Nicholas Gates while he was on a routine speeding stop. Thirteen years later his widow, Cameron Gates, finds out the FBI has arrested her husband’s killer when they changed the hit and run charge to murder. It now looks like he was killed by a hitman.
In the meantime, Lieutenant Murphy Thornton of the United States Navy (NCIS) responded to a call at a townhouse in Reston, Virginia. Five women were found dead, five shots to the face and body. One victim was a Navy Petty Officer, and the reason why Murphy was called to the scene.
Murphy and his wife brought the Petty Officer’s five year old daughter into their home for protection as she had nowhere else to go. Shortly after the young girl moved in, the couple spotted a car that seemed to follow the couple whenever they went out or parked near their home.
As Murphy works the murder case, he finds a connection to his stepmother, Cameron, and the death of her first husband. She is now the wife of Murphy’s father Joshua Thornton.
